Review of the 2017 Beautylish Lucky Box

ooOh what’s inside?
As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I love Bioderma, so the first time I ordered from Beautylish it was really more out of necessity than anything else because no other US-based stores sold it. When I received my first package I was struck by how beautifully it was packaged and the handwritten note that accompanied my order as a first time Beautylish-purchaser. Ever since, I’ve kept an eye on the website and when I saw an e-mail touting their “Lucky Bag” I knew I needed one. Beautylish’s idea comes from a Japanese tradition called fukubukuro, which is a new year’s tradition basically like a grab bag. I love a good grad bag, so this was a no-brainer. The cost for the 2017 bag was $75 plus shipping and handling, so I ended up paying $82 and you are promised to recieve a bag that contains at least $150 worth of beauty products. Read on to see how much my bag was worth and some details on the items!

not much gets me as excited as new beauty goods
What I got:
Clean Apothecary Brush Shampoo in Rose, $15: I’ve already used this to clean my brushes and give it two thumbs up. It’s easy to use, the smell isn’t overpowering and it got my brushes super clean. It’s also a bigger size than the beautyblender cleanser, which I’ve used in the past and works great, but costs more.
Mini Bioderma, $6.90: Y’all already know this is one of my favorites, so a travel-sized option is great.
It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara, $24: I liked the way this made my lashes look, but I only use waterproof mascaras, which this is not. I noticed some flaking on my face too. I liked trying this since I never buy high-end mascaras, but I think I’ll stick to Maybelline.
Becca Blushed with Light Pallette, $34: I had been wanting to try Becca blushes, so I was elated to get this. I love it. The shades are buildable, wearable, and just look nice.
Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Fimstar Bronze and Glow, $68: This was a limited edition pallette, and a cream version of this pallette. I really like cream products because my skin is incredibly dry, but I know some people were complaining that this was just a product that wasn’t sold and basically we were getting an “old” product. Whatever, I liked this too.
Mystery Powder Brush, estimated $64: Allegedly, this was a brush Chikuhodo specifically made for the Lucky Bag 2017. It was my first time trying one of their brushes, and it’s not the greatest thing ever, but it’s nice and I like using this with my Becca pallette.
Total Value: estimated $211. Not bad for $82! And just really fun to get such a cool surprise package. I definitely want to do it again next year.
If you are interested in a bag for next year, you can head to Beautylish’s site to get on the email list. They will send you a reminder and you will be able to purchase the day after Christmas. The boxes then ship out the first week of January.
Words of Warning: Maybe don’t do this if you plan on stalking other people’s boxes on insta. It can be a little jealousy inducing to see the sick stuff other people get. Especially since some bags are “extra” lucky and contain extra items and gift cards. I saw one person who had got this t3 set!!
Curiously yours,
